The many uses of vinegar

Vinegar is wonderful in many food recipes and used to settle upset stomachs, but it can also be used as a cleaning agent for your home. It can be used in many ways in the house, today I will talk about 4 areas of your home that vinegar would be beneficial for.

In the kitchen, vinegar can be used to wipe down spills in the refrigerator. Using a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water, pour into a spray bottle, spray the affected area and then simply wipe down with a damp cloth. You can also use white vinegar to clean cutting boards by spraying the board with straight vinegar, then rinse to clean. This can also be used in the microwave by adding equal parts vinegar to water in a microwave-safe bowl and microwaving for 2-3 minutes or until it’s boiling.  Cleaning up the inside is now a breeze!

In the bathroom, you can pour 1/2 cup distilled vinegar in a closed drain. Let it sit for several hours, then scrub the area, drain and rinse. Mix 1/2 cup vinegar with a gallon of warm water, then mop down floors or countertops and allow to air dry. In the toilet, pour a cup of vinegar in the bowl and let sit overnight. Draining the water from the bowl first helps with tough jobs.

As a mattress disinfectant in the bedroom, mix distilled vinegar, rubbing alcohol and tee tree oil in a spray bottle; spritz mattresses to stave off mildew, dust mites and general odor.

And for general purposes, vinegar can be used as an air freshener.  Add 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar to a 4 ounce spray bottle, fill with distilled water and a few drops of a favorite essential oil and use in any room of the house. Or as a window cleaner, mix 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, and 1/3 cup vinegar in a 32 ounce spray bottle then fill with water. Spritz on a lint-free cloth to clean.
